why offsite / online storage and backup?

Data backup has had a long history. Some popular and the most common backup methods would include; tape backup (although it has been reported that 50% of tape backups don’t restore successfully), floppy disk backup, CD/RW burning, external hard drives, flash drives, and DVD/RW burning.

The biggest problem that users face when it comes to backup is that all of the above must be self-managed. The users’ data is not safe if they are relying on an employee to backup the data every night. If using tape backup, the user must change the tapes, then take the tapes to an offsite location, and repeat this process again the next day. Backing up to tape has become more, not less, complex as data volumes continue to grow exponentially. Backup windows have ceased to exist because critical applications must run near continuously. More importantly, downtime is not an option, whether planned or unplanned. Additionally, these solutions are not fully automated.

In most cases when using the above methods of data backup, the users do not realize they need a solution until it is too late.

Vertebrae’s backup software monitors the clients data for changes, and when scheduled, takes a copy of the information, compresses it, encrypts it, and moves it over the Internet to Vertebrae’s secure storage facility. In the event of a data failure, the user can retrieve their data instantly over any web browser from any location.

The backup software is fully automated and it can run "invisibly" while the user continues to work. It is an automatic, secure solution to data protection.
